Traditional Silver Jewelry – Anklets, Earrings and Necklaces
Traditionally, silver has been very popular as a semi-precious metal that allows jewelers to display their creativity. In places like South India where there are thousands of temples, the culture there is appreciative of jewelry being worn by the women. These temples have a number of traditional dance festivals that are held during specific months and hundreds of lady dancers come to take part in these festivals. Most of them adorn themselves with silver ornaments before they come onto the stage for their dance performance.
The jewelry that is worn by these dancers traditionally have been the anklets and elaborate, intricately produced silver necklaces. Such necklaces are made by specialist jewelers who have handed down their jewelry making techniques for centuries from father to son. That knowledge is used each year to produce superb silver anklets that produce a jingling sound when they are worn on the ankles. Each time the dancer makes a foot movement the tiny bells that are attached onto the silver or brass anklets move about thereby creating the delightful sound that one hears when the dancer dances. It is not a rule that only dancers are supposed to wear the jingling anklets. It’s commonly worn by Indians too. Such anklets are also worn by the women of many other parts of the world with much appreciation of their beauty.
Earrings too are worn traditionally by people of certain regions and these are of the heavy variety usually. However, the trend is now changing to suit modern tastes of women and society where the lighter the jewelry the easier it is to wear on a daily basis. It is not easy for a lady to wear chunky jewelry to office and keep wearing it comfortably all day long and hence the earrings of today are light and trendy to suit this type of buyer.
Necklaces too have undergone a major change with the majority of necklaces adopting a light look. This is indeed easier to wear and is also cheaper since lesser amounts of precious jewelry is used. However prices are set based on the uniqueness and beauty of the individual piece generally and one can expect to pay a tidy sum for a silver necklace that is made artfully. Necklaces made of silver are combined with a variety of gemstones, other precious metals and beads to cater to the wide tastes of women worldwide. The only slight disadvantage when it comes to silver is that it has to be maintained now and then without which the metal sometimes tends to tarnish and lose its color. However this is not a matter of great concern since the shine can be regained within a minute of rubbing with a silver jewelry cleaner. Thus silver has got a lot of things going for it and it would be wise to invest in this precious metal if you are thinking of buying jewelry that is affordable and yet very stylish to look at.
